Iran has reported that at least 3,468 people were killed during its recent war with the United States and Israel, according to the state-run Foundation of Martyrs and Veterans Affairs.
The disclosure was made on Saturday, as a two-week ceasefire holds in the conflict, which began in late February following joint US-Israeli strikes on Tehran.
Head of the foundation, Ahmad Mousavi, told the ISNA news agency that 3,468 “martyrs” died in the fighting.
Earlier figures released on April 12 by Iran’s Legal Medicine Organization had put the death toll at 3,375.
However, the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) had estimated a higher toll, reporting on April 7 that at least 3,636 people were killed.
The group said the casualties included 1,701 civilians — among them at least 254 children — 1,221 military personnel, and 714 individuals whose status remains unclear.
Independent verification of casualty figures remains difficult, as access to strike locations in Iran is restricted.
