Chimamanda Adichie: “I Support Peter Obi for His Record, Not Because He Is Igbo”

Renowned Nigerian author and public intellectual Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has stated that her support for Peter Obi is based on his competence, track record, and leadership qualities rather than ethnic considerations.

According to Adichie, her endorsement of the former Anambra State governor stems from his achievements in public office and her belief in his ability to positively transform Nigeria. She emphasized that leadership should be judged by merit, vision, and performance rather than tribal or ethnic affiliations.

“I support Peter Obi for his outstanding record as former governor and his ability to transform Nigeria. Not because he is Igbo. Competence over tribe,” Adichie said.

The celebrated author’s remarks come amid continuing debates about the role of ethnicity in Nigerian politics. She maintained that Nigerians should prioritize competence and integrity when assessing political leaders, arguing that the country’s future depends on electing individuals with the capacity to address its numerous challenges.

Adichie’s comments have generated discussions across social and political circles, with many supporters praising her call for issue-based politics and leadership founded on merit rather than ethnic identity.
