Nigerian passport holders can now enjoy visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 46 countries around the world in 2026, according to the latest global passport rankings.
The update means Nigerians can visit several destinations across Africa, the Caribbean, Oceania, and parts of Asia without obtaining a visa before departure.
While some countries allow completely visa-free entry, others issue visas on arrival or require a simple electronic travel authorization (eTA).
Popular destinations offering easier access to Nigerians include Benin, Ghana, Senegal, The Gambia, Barbados, Dominica, Fiji, Maldives, and Vanuatu, among others.
The new ranking reflects the number of destinations Nigerian passport holders can access with minimal travel restrictions.
Despite this improvement, travellers are advised to check the latest entry requirements before making travel plans, as immigration policies can change.
Some countries may still require proof of accommodation, return tickets, sufficient funds, travel insurance, or vaccination certificates before granting entry.
Travel experts say the expanded access is good news for tourism, business, education, and regional trade, giving Nigerians more opportunities to travel with fewer visa-related hurdles.
However, they also urge travellers to ensure their passports are valid and to comply with the immigration laws of their destination countries.
The updated list highlights gradual improvements in global mobility for Nigerian citizens, although the country’s passport still ranks below many of the world’s strongest passports in terms of unrestricted travel access.
