Access Bank appoints Oluseyi Kumapayi as deputy managing director for African subsidiaries
Access Bank Plc has appointed Oluseyi Kumapayi as Deputy Managing Director, African Subsidiaries, as the lender intensifies efforts to improve profitability, operational efficiency and shareholder returns across its African operations.
The appointment, which took effect on October 27, 2026, followed approval from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), according to a regulatory announcement by the bank’s parent company, Access Holdings Plc.
Kumapayi was promoted from his previous position as Executive Director, African Subsidiaries, which he had held since November 2020. In his new role, he will continue overseeing the bank’s operations across African markets, with an expanded responsibility for improving earnings, capital productivity and operational performance.
He will also support the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Roosevelt Ogbonna, in the broader leadership and strategic management of the bank.
Kumapayi brings more than 25 years of banking experience spanning financial management, corporate strategy, risk management, treasury and business development.
He joined Access Bank in 2002 and served as the Group Chief Financial Officer from 2007 to 2020, contributing to the bank’s financial management and strategic development.
He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN). He also holds an Executive MBA from IMD, Lausanne, Switzerland, and an Executive Master’s degree in Digital Transformation and Innovation Leadership from IE University, Madrid.
The appointment forms part of Access Holdings’ broader strategy to shift its focus from geographical expansion to maximising the performance and value of its existing banking operations.
The group is prioritising stronger subsidiary performance, disciplined capital allocation, technology-driven productivity and improved returns on investment.
In a related development, Access Bank also appointed Olanrewaju Bamisebi as Executive Director, Information Technology and Digitalisation, effective October 28, 2026.
Bamisebi brings more than 20 years of experience in technology transformation, digital banking and enterprise systems. His appointment is expected to strengthen the bank’s digital infrastructure, improve operational efficiency and enhance customer experience.
The two appointments reflect Access Holdings’ renewed focus on profitability, capital efficiency, operational excellence and sustainable shareholder value across its banking operations in Africa and beyond.
