DANGOTE: KENYA OIL REFINERY PROJECT COULD COST UP TO $17 BILLION
Aliko Dangote has revealed that a proposed oil refinery project in Kenya could require an investment of up to $17 billion, highlighting the enormous capital needed to develop a world-class refining facility.
Speaking on the potential project, Dangote said the estimated cost reflects the scale of infrastructure, technology, and logistics required to build a modern refinery capable of meeting regional fuel demand. He noted that such a project would need strong government support, private-sector investment, and long-term financing to become a reality.
If completed, the refinery could significantly reduce Kenya’s dependence on imported refined petroleum products, strengthen energy security, create thousands of jobs, and position the country as a major fuel supply hub for East Africa.
Dangote emphasized that large-scale refinery projects are complex and capital-intensive but can deliver lasting economic benefits through industrial growth, increased local refining capacity, and improved fuel supply across the region.
The proposal comes as several African countries seek to expand domestic refining capacity to reduce import costs and improve energy independence.
