The Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, Commission and the European Union, EU, have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration in regional integration, democracy, peace, and security.
This renewed partnership aims to enhance ECOWAS’s future prospects as it approaches its 50th Anniversary and prepares for the Summit of the Future.
The commitment was highlighted during a visit by the Head of the EU Delegation to ECOWAS, Ambassador Gautier Mignot, along with EU Heads of Mission, to the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, at the ECOWAS Commission Headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria.
He emphasised the importance of preserving ECOWAS unity and fostering an equitable partnership between the two organizations.
Ambassador Mignot, in his remarks, described ECOWAS as ‘a strategic partner’ and reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to deepening its collaboration with the regional bloc.
