Ghana Government Imposes Fresh Ban on Foreign Travels for Board Members of State Agencies

The Ghanaian government, led by President John Dramani Mahama, has banned board members of state-owned enterprises and public institutions from undertaking international travel for training, retreats, conferences, or similar activities at the expense of the state. This directive aims to strengthen expenditure controls and ensure prudent management of public resources .

The ban is part of the government’s efforts to reduce non-essential public spending and redirect resources toward priority programs and infrastructure development. Exceptions may be granted with approval from the President, and institutions are encouraged to explore virtual platforms, technical exchanges, and local training programs instead .
