Ghana will move on if Journalists stop taking soli as a bribe – Kennedy Agyapong

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central constituency in the Central Region has accused Journalists, politicians, priests and chiefs in Ghana as the main problems of the country’s development.

He said if Journalists stop taking money from people (soli) as a bribe and publish good stories and politicians avoid bribery and embezzlement of state funds Ghana will progress.

Speaking on KSM show on Friday, March 1, 2024, the former New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful lamented over how some priests, chiefs and relatives plead on behalf of people who have made mistakes to go unpunished.

According to him, such behaviour affects national development.

“If Journalists stop taking bribes as soli, if politicians stop taking bribes, if pastor, chief, whatever stop pleading on behalf of people who have made mistakes, we can move this country.” He said.

“All of you are part of the problem, you are part of the problem, I am part of the problem. We don’t want anybody to crack the whip, oh leave it to God, God will provide, A person has made a mistake, you need to punish him and correct him or to serve as a deterrent, Ghanaians will come and beg, you have a priest coming to beg, you have a chief coming to beg, you have your relatives coming to beg, did anybody bed Kagame? Now they are doing well so we are all part of the problem” Kennedy Agyapong said.

“Whatever happened in parliament, I reciprocate action and you see? You Journalists, some of you are part of the problem. Some journalists in this country are so corrupt that nobody is bold enough to tell them, you sit here when you take money then you say ‘soli’. Go to the whole world and see if any journalist takes money and says soli, you will say solidarity. It is a bribe.” He explained.

He explained that some Journalists write stories depending on the amount of money they get and it is not helping the country.

“The soli you take, it depends on the amount of money that I will give you that you will write a good story about me, it is wrong. We are all partners, we want to change the system and you are taking soli to go and do your publication then you come back and criticise politicians that he is corrupt. Please, we are all part of the problem.” The outspoken Member of parliament stated.

According to him, if Ghanaians actually love the country as the Bible says we should love our neighbors as ourselves, everybody will be punctual at work and will not steal state funds.

” The Bible says love your neighbor as yourself, therefore, any worker in this country, if you love this country you will not steal state funds, if you love this country you will not embezzle state funds, if you are honest you will not going to steal state fund, if you are discipline if they say 8 o’clock is 8 o’clock not 10 o’clock.” Ken Agyapong added.
