defender Alexander Djiku, who plays his club football in Turkey, has made a return to the Black Stars squad ahead of their crucial doubleheader against Sudan.
His inclusion comes as the national team prepares to continue their quest to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Black Stars kicked off their Group F campaign in September, with mixed results. In their first match, Ghana narrowly lost 1-0 to Angola in Kumasi, followed by a 1-1 draw with Niger away from home.
Alexander Djiku, 30, sidelined due to injury at the time, was absent from both matches.
However, with his return to full fitness, head coach Otto Addo has called up the experienced defender for the pivotal clashes against Sudan. Djiku’s defensive prowess will be crucial as Ghana looks to take maximum points from the two games.
The centre-backs return brings a boost to the Black Stars’ defence, and he is one of several key players expected to lead the charge in securing all six points.
Ghana, currently sitting third in Group F, is in desperate need of victories to bolster their chances of qualifying for the 2025 AFCON, which will be hosted in Morocco.
The doubleheader against Sudan is scheduled for October 10 and October 15, and the stakes couldn’t be higher for the Black Stars, who are determined to revive their qualification campaign.
