Lagos APC expels Egunjobi, Yusuf over alleged anti-party activities
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expelled former Agege Local Government Chairman, Ganiyu Kolawole Egunjobi, and Azeez Yusuf over alleged anti-party activities and disloyalty.
The party announced the expulsion on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, through a statement by its Lagos State Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi.
Egunjobi and Yusuf had contested the APC’s 2026 nomination process for the Lagos State House of Assembly seats representing Agege Constituencies I and II respectively, but did not secure the party’s tickets.
The APC said the duo subsequently obtained tickets from the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) to contest the same constituencies in the 2027 election. The party described the move as a breach of its membership obligations and an act of anti-party activity.
The Lagos APC said it invoked Article 9(5)(II) of the APC Constitution, as amended in 2022, to take disciplinary action against the two politicians. It also stated that members who lose internal contests are expected to accept the outcome or pursue the available avenues of redress within the party and under the law.
The party further said Egunjobi and Yusuf’s purported resignations were a belated attempt to avoid disciplinary consequences and warned that neither man could speak for, represent or conduct business on behalf of the Lagos APC.
However, Egunjobi and Yusuf rejected the expulsion, saying they had already resigned from the APC in July 2026, weeks before the party announced their expulsion.
In a joint statement, they said they had communicated their decision to leave the party before joining the APM and questioned how the APC could expel them after they had already resigned. They described the expulsion as belated and politically unnecessary.
The dispute follows disagreements over the APC nomination process in Agege and comes as political parties prepare for the 2027 general elections. Egunjobi is expected to contest Agege Constituency I on the APM platform, while Yusuf is set to contest Agege Constituency II under the same party.
