The Lagos State Government has pledged support for the premiere of Black Market, scheduled for Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Tafawa Balewa Square on Lagos Island.
The government announced the engagement in a post on its official X account on Sunday.
The film’s production team, led by Producer Nora Awolowo, Co-Producer/Executive Producer Omowunmi Dada, and Event Producer Damilola Osikoya, met with the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, on Thursday, August 27, to seek the Ministry’s backing.Organisers said the event is expected to draw about 50,000 attendees and will attempt to set a Guinness World Records record for the largest audience at a movie screening.
Benson-Awoyinka assured the team of the state’s support, saying the project aligns with government efforts to grow young talent and the creative economy.“Lagos remains Nigeria’s leading hub for entertainment and creativity.
We are committed to supporting initiatives that showcase our people’s talents, attract visitors and further strengthen the State’s position as a preferred destination for tourism, arts, culture and entertainment,” she said.
She added that the initiative is consistent with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES Plus Agenda, which prioritises innovation and youth empowerment.
The Commissioner urged the team to meet global standards and work with relevant state MDAs to secure approvals.
Also at the meeting was Permanent Secretary Mrs. Bopo Oyekan-Ismaila, who reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to the growth of Lagos’ creative sector.Organisers said the Black Market premiere will bring together filmmakers, actors and other stakeholders for what they described as a landmark showcase of Nigerian cinema.
