Malaysia’s PM Anwar Announces Extra Public Holiday for Hari Raya Aidilfitri

Malaysia’s Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, has announced an additional public holiday in conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration, giving Malaysians extra time to celebrate the end of Ramadan with their families.

The announcement was made during a National Consumers Day event in Kota Kinabalu, where the prime minister said the decision was a gesture of appreciation for Malaysians’ dedication and hard work throughout the year. The move is also intended to make travel and festive preparations easier for families across the country.

According to the government, the exact date of the additional holiday will depend on the official declaration of 1 Syawal, the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri. The determination will be made after the sighting of the Syawal crescent moon at several locations nationwide. The prime minister said the early announcement was meant to help Malaysians plan their travel, especially the traditional “balik kampung” journeys where many people return to their hometowns to celebrate the festival with loved ones.

In addition, the government is implementing a Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme for essential goods during the Aidilfitri period to help keep prices stable and reduce the financial burden on households preparing for the celebration.

The extra holiday is expected to create a longer festive break, allowing Malaysians more time to observe the important Islamic festival and spend time with family and friends.
