Ghana’s political landscape and democracy are gradually experiencing more growth and ensuring gender equality.

Currently, the number of women representing their constituents in Parliament are also growing.

One of the female Parliamentarians making differences in the 9th Parliament is Hon. Millicent Yeboah Amankwah.

Millicent Yeboah Amankwah is a young female politician, Child Right Advocate ,Philanthropist, Inspirational Speaker and Executive Director of Success Initiative Consult (SIC) who represent the people of Sunyani West.

Millicent hails from Odumase-Sunyani in the Bono Region Graduate Diploma in Law from the University of Law in 2022.

Millicent’s political success began after she defeated two strong men Justice Samuel Adjei and Abdullai Yah during the NDC primaries in 2029 to become the party’s Parliamentary Candidate for Sunyani West.

The Child Right Advocate won the NDC primaries with 623 votes against 171 and 286 votes.

In 2024, Millicent Yeboah Amankwaah went for the general election with new strength and confidence and defeated the then incumbent MP, Ignatius Baffour Awuah of the New Patriotic Party.

The young female politician secured 26,828 votes representing 57.64% and her opponent also obtained 19,715 votes representing 42.36%

When she became the lawmaker, Millicent visited her constituents during her “Thank You Tour” to reconnect with the communities and show appreciation for the confidence they have placed in her to represent them in Parliament.

She supported the urgent rebuilding of Mantukwa M/A Basic School which was damaged by heavy rains, leading to the collapse of the school building with a total of GHC 200,000 . The money was divided into three

• GHC 50,000 to the MP’s office

• GHC 50,000 to the MCE’s office

• GHC 100,000 to the Assembly’s coffers.

“This was made possible through the generous GHC 100,000 donation from Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams and his wife, for which I am deeply grateful — and an additional GHC 100,000 which I personally contributed. Although the Common Fund has not yet been released, I assured the community that we will do everything to support and provide for our good people of Sunyani West Constituency, so work can commence immediately. I have asked the engineer and contractor to assess the site without delay so that our children can return to a safe and peaceful learning environment as soon as possible.” She said.

The young MP also donated 300 streetlight poles and bulbs to the good people of Sunyani West Constituency as part of her commitment to enhancing security, promoting development, and improving the quality of life in our towns and villages.

“This initiative is aimed at ensuring our streets, markets, and neighborhoods are well-lit, safe, and conducive for both social and economic activities, especially during the night. Following my recent visit and thank-you tour across my constituency, I took note of several pressing challenges facing our communities — one of which was poor lighting in many areas. This intervention is one of the practical solutions I am rolling out to address these issues directly.” Millicent Yeboah stated.

In her unusual nature in Ghana politics, the Sunyani West MP on Monday, 9th June 2025, met with the 112 BECE invigilators in Sunyani West ahead of the examination. She supported each of them with a GHC 100 daily allowance, amounting to GHC 500 per person for the full five-day exam period.

She also presented GHC 4,000 to the Education Directorate to assist with logistics and supervision during the exams. In total, GHC 60,000 was committed to support this year’s BECE in Sunyani West.

During this year’s BECE, the MP donated 2,700 mathematical sets to BECE candidates across Sunyani West Constituency.

“During my interaction with them, I took the opportunity to motivate and encourage them to stay focused and study hard as they prepare for their exams. I reminded them that I was once like them, sitting for the same exams and dreaming big. Today, I stand as living proof that with determination and hard work, their dreams are valid.”

On Tuesday, 10th June, 2025, Hon. Millicent Yeboah Amankwah presented a Nissan Navara pick-up vehicle and two motorbikes to the Bono Regional Police Command.

According to her, The donation forms part of ongoing efforts to enhance security across our region, particularly in response to the rise in armed robbery cases along the Sunyani-Berekum highway, including communities like Twumasikrom and Ayakomaso, which fall under my constituency.

She said “These are areas where limited network coverage often hampers timely police response. This support is not just a donation; it reflects my deep commitment to the safety and well-being of the people of Sunyani West and the Bono Region. Our communities deserve to feel safe and protected, and I remain dedicated to helping make that a reality.”
