Natasha Osawaru, wife of Nigerian music star Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has emerged as the Minority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly.
Osawaru, who represents Egor Constituency in the Assembly, was announced as the new Minority Leader during plenary on Monday, August 17, 2026.
Her emergence followed a major reshuffling of the Assembly’s principal leadership positions amid a wider shake-up in the House.
The leadership changes came after the resignation of Blessing Agbebaku as Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly. Yekini Idaiye was subsequently elected as the new Speaker.
The latest development also marks a return to a principal leadership position for Osawaru. She had previously served as Minority Leader before losing the position during an earlier restructuring of the Assembly.
Osawaru, a member of the opposition Nigeria Democratic Congress, represents Egor Constituency and remains one of the prominent lawmakers in the 8th Edo State House of Assembly.
Her appointment comes at a time when her personal life has continued to attract public attention because of reports surrounding her relationship with 2Baba. The singer and Osawaru have faced public speculation over the state of their marriage, with recent reports suggesting that the relationship is experiencing difficulties.
However, the marital issues are separate from Osawaru’s legislative responsibilities, and her appointment as Minority Leader was made during the Assembly’s plenary proceedings as part of its leadership restructuring.
The new position places Osawaru in charge of coordinating the opposition side of the Edo Assembly and representing its interests in the House’s leadership structure.
The leadership changes are expected to shape the political dynamics of the Edo State House of Assembly as lawmakers continue their legislative activities.
