Nine people have been killed in a fatal road crash along the Ijebu-Ode/Ore axis of the Ijebu-Ode-Benin Expressway in Ogun State.
The crash occurred at about 4:55 p.m. on Monday in the Bethel area and involved a white Toyota Hiace commercial bus belonging to Delta Line and a white Sino truck operated by Bill Gas Solution Ltd.
According to the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), all nine people involved in the crash — three males and six females — died in the incident.
The FRSC said the crash happened while it was raining and the road surface was wet. Preliminary investigation identified speed violation as the probable cause of the accident.
The FRSC rescue team arrived at the scene within two minutes of receiving the report. The remains of the victims were evacuated to the General Hospital Morgue in Ijebu-Ode, while the vehicles were towed to the Ilese Police Station by the police Motor Traffic Division.
The Ogun State FRSC Corps Commander, Oludare Ogunjobi, urged motorists, especially commercial vehicle operators, to exercise extreme caution when driving during rainfall.
He advised drivers to obey speed limits, maintain safe following distances and avoid any behaviour that could endanger other road users.
The FRSC also warned that speeding becomes particularly dangerous on wet roads because reduced tyre grip and visibility can make it harder for motorists to control their vehicles or stop safely.
The agency expressed condolences to the families of the victims and urged all road users to make safety a priority.
