It’s no secret that Tyla loves the ‘00s. The pop star often incorporates 2000s trends into her red carpet and performance looks, with lots of prints, patterns, bright colors, and low-rise silhouettes. For a recent performance, Tyla again threw it back to the 2000s with her outfit but also paid homage to Oscar-winning actor Halle Berry once more.
As noted by NYC-based stylist and vintage archivist Gabriel Held Vintage, Tyla’s pale purple Versace bra top was a customized version of one worn by Halle Berry in a 2006 campaign. The original top had a halter neck and sheer midriff, with long strips of the same purple chiffon tied to the neckline to flow freely as she moved. Gabriel Held Vintage customized the top for Tyla, keeping the bra top bodice and fabric panels but removing the halter neck and midriff portion. Tyla wore the top with a fitted, low-rise tiger-print skirt and furry hat for an outfit that would be right at home on TRL 20 years ago. We love seeing vintage (or almost vintage) pieces like this get a new life on our favorite stars, and it’s basically a mini fashion history lesson at the same time!
If the vibe looks familiar, it’s because Tyla also shouted out Berry with her Halloween costume, paying tribute to Berry’s role as “Sharon Stone” in the ’90s movie The Flintstones. She wore another tiger-print look for said costume, including a cropped halter and miniskirt similar to the one Berry wore in the film, plus a pixie wig. (Halle Bailey also paid homage to Berry with her costume, rocking an orange bikini and pixie wig like Berry in the Bond movie Die Another Day. Fingers crossed for more throwback homages — complete with vintage designer pieces, of course— from Tyla in the future.
