Zulum Pledges to Pay Medical Bills of 110 Boko Haram Bomb Victims in Maiduguri

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has pledged to fully cover the medical expenses of 110 victims injured in the recent Boko Haram bomb attacks in Maiduguri, the state capital.

The governor made this commitment during a visit to survivors receiving treatment at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) and the Borno State Specialist Hospital.

The victims sustained varying degrees of injuries, including fractures and severe burns, following multiple explosions that rocked the city.

The attacks, believed to have been carried out by suspected suicide bombers, struck several locations, including a busy market, a post office area, and near the teaching hospital, leaving dozens dead and over 100 injured.

Zulum described the incident as a tragic disaster and assured residents that his administration would take full responsibility for the treatment of all affected victims.

He also expressed sympathy to families who lost loved ones, promising continued government support.

According to hospital officials, a total of 110 victims were received from the blasts. While some were brought in dead and others later died, many are still undergoing treatment, with several already discharged after receiving care.

The governor, who was reportedly on a religious trip abroad when the attacks occurred, reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that Borno does not relapse into widespread insecurity. He emphasized that both state and federal authorities are intensifying efforts to tackle insurgency and restore lasting peace.

Zulum also commended national leaders and security agencies for their swift response, urging residents to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative with security forces as operations against insurgents continue.

The incident highlights ongoing security challenges in Nigeria’s northeast, where extremist groups like Boko Haram have carried out attacks for over a decade, despite recent gains by the military.
