President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of 26 persons into the boards and leadership of 10 key federal government agencies and commissions, with former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, emerging as Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).
The appointments were announced in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, with the new appointees expected to assume their duties immediately.
Fayose will lead the board of the Rural Electrification Agency alongside Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar and Engineer Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta, who were appointed as members and non-executive directors. The agency’s Director-General, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, and three previously appointed executive directors will complete the board.
President Tinubu also named Major General Junaid Bindawa as Chairman of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission. Eight other persons were appointed to the commission, including former House of Representatives member, Olajumoke Okoya-Thomas, who was named Secretary.
Other appointees to the commission include Dr Ogbole Ene Lilian, Oladele Olatubosun, Yakubu Umar Barde, Dr Mai Adamu Yau, Ginika Florence Tor, Engineer Lawrence Okoh and Bello Morenike Iyabode.
In another appointment, Tosin Johnson Adeyanju, who previously served as Executive Secretary of the National Lottery Trust Fund, was redeployed as Secretary of the Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal Commission.
Tinubu also appointed Dr Abuh Mohammed as Director-General of the National Population Commission, Dr Akinola Odeyemi as Managing Director of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading company, and Dr Anthony Inalegwu Godwin as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission.
Engineer Julius Oloro was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation, replacing Dr A.R. Kamal, who died earlier in the year.
The President also approved the constitution of the board of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission, with Dr Abdullahi Maikano Saidu appointed as Chairman. Other members include Mohammed Asmau, Mohammed Aliyu Makama, Dr Suleiman Gidado, Louis O. Ndukwe, Amaechi Ugwele and Olaniyi Idowu Onikola.
Additionally, Shuni Muhammad Dahiru was named Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education, while Gisaor Vincent Iorja was appointed Executive Director (Finance) of the Federal Housing Authority.
According to the Presidency, all the appointments take immediate effect and are aimed at strengthening the leadership and operations of key federal institutions.
